Service Description

Precision Rifle 1 is the foundation precision-rifle course at Hondo's Training Shield, built for the armed professional and the serious civilian rifleman. We build the course around marksmanship fundamentals, the physical and mental preparation of the precision rifleman, and the technical knowledge you need to deploy a scoped bolt-action or precision semi-auto. Expect a large amount of time on the range with moderate physical exertion in potentially hot climates. Arrive in good physical condition with adequate hydration. What we cover: • Safety briefing and range protocols • Scoped rifle nomenclature • Care and cleaning of the precision rifle • Scoped rifle marksmanship • Data book • Ballistics • Minute of angle • Range card • Wind reading • Whiz wheel and ballistic computation • Environmental conditions • Target engagement • Rifle shooting positions • Moving targets • Intermediate barriers • Angled fire, high and low • Range estimation techniques • Mil holds • The role of the precision rifleman and use of force considerations • Cover and concealment for the rifleman Prerequisite: successful completion of a basic rifle course or equivalent. Bring a sighted-in scoped rifle and be familiar with safe handling and basic manipulation. Good physical condition is required. Duration: 40 hours, one week. What to bring: • Scoped rifle with bipod and a quality sling • Handgun with holster • Range finder • Wind meter (Kestrel or equivalent) if available • 450 rounds of rifle ammunition, match-grade preferred • 100 rounds of pistol ammunition • Tactical uniform appropriate to climate • Personal tactical equipment • Spotting scope, recommended • Inclement weather gear • Eye and ear protection • Note-taking materials and data book • Cleaning kit Also worth bringing: shooting mat, backpack or drag bag, camouflage netting, issued radio and headset, and anything else you would carry on a deployment. Evaluation: you're evaluated on each lesson block, on data-book completeness, and on end-of-course qualification courses of fire. Passing requires documented competency on each block and a passing score on the HTS precision rifle qualification. Every student signs the FTA Release and Waiver, the release we use for all HTS classes, before training begins.
