Service Description

I built this for the man or woman who never asked to be a gunfighter. The deacon, the usher, the retired schoolteacher who looked around their church one Sunday and realized that if something went bad, they were it. That's most of you. So read this like a working manual, not a war story. This is a classroom course. No live fire. It can stand alone for a church safety team, or serve as the mindset and legal block in front of any live-fire qualification a team chooses to run. Here is the order I teach in, and it is the spine of the whole course. Your brain and your mind come first, because they are the best tool you already own. Then your eyes and ears: seeing what is in front of you, not what you assume is there. Then avoidance: getting people out, moving, repositioning, which quietly ends the large majority of problems before they ever become a fight. And only then, if nothing else was possible, action. We are not here to turn you into John Wick. We are here to make you a sharp observer who avoids the fight, and who can act if that fails. I would rather teach you to think than hand you a checklist. A checklist runs out. A way of thinking works on the problem you did not see coming. So question me. If I say something that does not sit right with you, or you believe there is a better way, say so. If I cannot tell you why I do a thing, that is a sign I do not fully understand it myself, and you deserve better than that. Three questions carry the whole course, and they work on anything that worries you: what am I afraid of, what does the honest data say about it, and what can I change on the budget and the calendar we actually have. A team that owns those three does not need me in the room to work the next problem. What we cover: • Situational awareness for a congregation setting • De-escalation and how to end a problem before it becomes a fight • Texas use-of-force law, in plain language, and where good people get hurt after the fight is over • Team roles, communication, and coordination during a service • Evacuation, medical response, and working with arriving officers A word on the law: everything legal in this course is Texas law. If you take your team across the state line, the awareness carries. The statutes do not. This course is adapted with permission and respect from the church security course of Richard Donaghe, Up The Canyon Training, LLC, in New Mexico, and rebuilt for Texas teams. The mindset he teaches is universal: skills, not luck. The 2/2 Rule taught in this course is the work of the Armed Attorneys, Edwin Walker and Richard Hayes. Every student signs the FTA Release and Waiver, the release we use for all HTS classes, before training begins.
